What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is a common condition, which is the leading cause of heel pain in adults. It is caused by inflammation in the ligament that runs the length of the bottom of the foot, the plantar fascia. If left untreated, the inflammation can worsen, particularly in the mornings. Plantar fasciitis is painful and uncomfortable, but it can be treated.

How does it happen?

Plantar fasciitis has many causes, which includes sprain/strains, foot mechanics, obesity, age, prolonged standing, and certain exercises, as well as, wearing shoes that offer improper support. The pain caused by this condition can cause you to alter your gait in an attempt to alleviate your pain, which can lead to other problems somewhere else in your body.

How We Can Help

We offer several treatment options for plantar fasciitis, such as:

  • Soft tissue manipulation to decrease the muscle tension in the surrounding musculature
  • Chiropractic adjustments to the restricted joints in the lower extremity
  • Rehabilitation exercises to improve function and provide pain relief
